Some early puff renderings using my bespoke ray tracer by Trenton Henry

These are from way back, circa 2010, when I first started trying to render books. I was developing the prototype of puff, integrating my ancient ray tracer (from my Nova Graphics days) to try to render "puff ball worlds" where everything, except the ground plane, is a sphere.

I had an idea of what scrods look like, and what wibble look like, but these proto-scrods and proto-wibbles didn't make it any further than the original 3LW book. I printed like 3 copies as an iTunes photo album.

I was already generating sphere clusters with scripts, as you can see from green Dragon's crest. The scrod tentacles and wibble crests were modeled by hand. Over time I automated these, as the character's morphology evolved.
